Texturing work in progress

This is a work in progress for my reel. Did the model some time back for a freelance job. I'm enjoying the texturing process.

Ears are so tedious, for noobs especially.

Updates

A slow update. The previous set of eyeballs were too big anatomically. Hopefully fixed that. There's so much to learn in this slow process. But that means I'll still be jobless for some time.

Human modeling

My 3rd attempt at modeling a human head. It's not easy for me. Some people have the talent. I don't. So it's many sleepless nights. Still far from done. This is after a month. Sad case. Maybe I deserve to be jobless.

Blizzart Art Contest

I was doing rigging and animation in my previous job, never do much modeling and texturing. But since I've set my sights to find a job with gaming companies (more of those foreign gaming companies coming to Singapore), decided to give a try.

Was alerted by my lecturer in my CG crash course school to the contest. He has an awesome entry btw. Link here.

Many firsts for me. First time fully UVW unwrapping, first time manually painting textures, first time with Normal mapping, first time with zbrush. It looks unpolished, but hey, have to start somewhere. Will continue on my learning journey.

The backstory

I was making a living dealing with gas (the smelly kind which explodes when someone lights up in the vicinity), until one fine day decided to do a career switch.

Went for a CG crash course, met many like minded classmates. Graduated and found a low paying job with no medical benefits, with a Singapore CG movie company. All was well and sunny until boss shift work to overseas (wonders of globalisation), like Apple and all the other companies.

Though we weren't fired, but there was nothing to do, nothing to learn, and slowing my energy and drive was being sapped away. Decided to jump the ship before my spirit sank.

Now jobless and learning CG skills on my own. It's tough to make a living in the arts in Singapore.
